Two stores are set to open in the old John Lewis branch in Watford Atria shopping centre this month.
The department store closed in the summer of 2020, and the large space has remained empty for the last three years.
After much deliberation, Watford Atria has come to arrangements with both Poundland and Dunelm to take up two smaller-sized plots within the former department store.
Poundland this year announced its largest-ever nationwide growth, opening 75 new stores over three months.
Included in this is the relocation of the Poundland on Watford High Street into the former John Lewis.
Poundland has stated that the new location will be a “flagship store”.
A spokesperson stated: “[Our] new store in Watford will be a major milestone for Poundland – for the first time, it will relocate to part of a former John Lewis unit, bringing its clothing and homewares ranges to a new audience.”
The Poundland shop was set to open on December 2, as WATFORDnews went to print. The opening date for Dunelm has yet to be confirmed but is also expected to be in December.
