I’m delighted to announce that on Friday October 3rd we scooped two awards at the National Magazine Publishers’ Conference.
The event is seen as the equivalent of the Oscars for local magazine companies. We are really proud that in a competition which attracted hundreds of entries from publishers across the UK, we won two categories and were shortlisted in two more.
I won Inspirational Business Owner of the Year award and my colleague Malcolm Preston was awarded the Inspirational Salesperson of the Year trophy.
We made the shortlist in the Best Editorial and Best Magazine categories narrowly missing out in both.
The panel of six judges are experts within our industry so I was chuffed to be recognised by people who know their stuff.
Malcolm was rightly recognised for his excellent customer care and always putting the client’s needs before his own. The judges remarked on his incredible success rate of the past four years.
The awards evening followed a conference where hundreds of magazine owners got together to learn from each other and listen to some of the industry’s leading lights.
Winning the Inspirational Business Owner of the Year award meant a great deal to me and my family. I have to admit to feeling very emotional when my name was read out.
The award is for my team as much as it is an individual one. During the eight years we’ve been publishing magazines; our team has evolved a great deal. The one thing we all share at My News is a passion to keep producing magazines which our readers enjoy and that our advertisers get results from.
We’re not resting on our laurels. Far from it. I was actually pretty disappointed not to win the Best Magazine of the Year award so that’s something we are really going to aim for next year.
I didn’t get a chance to make an acceptance speech. Probably a blessing really as I was pretty choked up.
However, if I did I would have thanked our team, our readers and customers and most of all my family who are the reason behind everything I do.
