Culture Minister Helen Grant MP visited Watford recently to launch a new website focused on remembering soldiers who lost their lives in the First World War. The new website, www.ukwarmemorials.org, will act as a central point to register war memorials and keep the memory alive, as well as helping with access to funding for their conservation. The website has been funded by the Government and set up by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport. The website is part of a programme of recording, research and conservation which is ongoing between 2014 and 2018, for the Centenary of the First World War. Minister Helen Grant said “I was thrilled to launch www.ukwarmemorials.org in Watford this morning. This website will act as a hub for people across the country, keen to find out more about the soldiers who selflessly gave their lives.” Richard Harrington MP added “It is absolutely right that we properly honour those who lost their lives to fight for our country, and continue to remember them. I really hope the website will be a great success, and complement the work of local residents who already do a great deal to ensure the conservation of our local memorials.” Picture courtesy of Tom Bishop
