Chalfont St Peter residents living in proximity of the HS2 vent shaft have received a letter informing them about the decision to add a further storey to the existing temporary block on site.
The note stated that construction activity can continue as long as they comply with government guidance, and the decision was made to ensure the safety of the workers.
The letter read: “Since work resumed, we have continued to work closely with HS2 Ltd to develop and introduce consistent measures which aim to ensure the protection of our workforce and minimise the risk of the spread of infection. One of the key considerations is whether workers on site are able to socially distance.
“To date we have been able to manage this effectively, but as our works progress more staff are now needed on site and we have had to review our on-site facilities to ensure they can work safely.
“We have taken the decision to add a further storey to the existing temporary block on site.
“We know that this decision will not be welcomed by residents, particularly those that live in the immediate area around the compound. We understand from our conversations with you that you may have concerns about site lighting, and the impact that this may have on the view from your properties.”
