NEW SPONSORS: Two businesses to sponsor upcoming charity fundraiser at Watford FC stadium

Published on: 16th May 2024   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

Two local businesses have enlisted the support of Watford FC players for their upcoming Step Up challenge.

Football enthusiasts and fitness fanatics alike are invited to join the stair climbing event, set to take place at Watford FC’s iconic Vicarage Road Stadium on Saturday, June 1.

Watford FC forwards, Mileta Rajović and Jack Grieves, along with defender Mattie Pollock are calling residents to join in the challenge, by walking, running, or climbing up and down the stands of the 20,000 plus seater stadium. The event will raise funds for Watford FC Trust and its neighbour, West Herts Hospitals Charity, the official charity for West Herts Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Those taking part can set personal targets, compete with friends, or simply aim to complete the challenge.

Watford goalkeeper and ambassador for West Herts Hospitals Charity, Daniel Bachmann, will be attending the Step Up event in his first official engagement for the charity, which raises funds to improve patient care and staff wellbeing over and above what the NHS can afford.

In collaboration with Penguin Books, special prizes are up for grabs: the first ten participants to cross the finish line, along with the top 10 fundraisers from the event, will receive The Sunday Times Sports Book of the Year – Watford Forever, the story of Elton John’s ownership of Watford Football Club and its transformational journey to the top of the first division under iconic manager Graham Taylor. One additional book will be available as a raffle prize.

The Anytime Fitness clubs in Croxley Park and Bushey, along with CMR Surgical, a supplier of surgical robots to the Trust, have proudly partnered with the Step Up for Health event as sponsors, reflecting their commitment to promoting health and wellbeing within the community. The team from the Anytime Fitness in Croxley Park and Bushey will also be hosting a warm-up session at the stadium before the challenge takes place.

All Step Up participants will receive goody bags with gym passes from Anytime Fitness, products from Lush in Watford and more. Local supermarkets including Morrisons in Watford, Tesco’s in Rickmansworth and Maylands and Tesco’s Extra in Watford, have donated water and cereal bars for Step Up event participants.

Alison Rosen, CEO at West Herts Hospitals Charity, said: “We’re really grateful to all our sponsors and generous donors for supporting this special event and making a difference to the mental and physical health and wellbeing of thousands of local residents. I will be personally joining the Step Up challenge, so will be lacing up my trainers to conquer the stairs at Vicarage Road!”

This event, supported by AMYA UK – the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association, promises a fun family-friendly experience, with two categories available: adults (18 years and over) and 6-18 year olds.
