New research from MoneySuperMarket has revealed that Watford has the highest claim rates across the UK.
The findings identify which parts of the UK are most likely to have made a claim by looking at car insurance and no claims discounts.
The data looked into 17.8 million MoneySuperMarket car insurance enquiries, broken down by postcode area, between January 2017 and July 2019.
The study showed that Watford wasn’t the only area in Hertfordshire to be in the top five areas.
Watford had a claim rate per 1,000 enquiries of 56.80 and neighbouring towns and cities, Hemel Hempstead (55.51), St Albans (55.24) and Stevenage (55.50) also made the top five.
Rachel Wait, consumer affairs spokesperson at MoneySuperMarket, commented: “Our data shows residents in the Hertfordshire area experience the highest claim rates on their car insurance in the UK. Watford has the highest claim rate in the country which means those living in the town may experience higher car insurance premiums.
“Although the data reveals that there is a higher claim rate in Hertfordshire than the rest of the UK, where you live does not directly impact this. Driving responsibly and avoiding road accidents is the most effective way to build up your no claims record irrespective of your location. By avoiding claims, you could save up to 24% on your premiums by keeping your no claims discount intact.”
