A new women’s football team, Everett Rovers Ladies FC, is launching in Garston, aiming to take the league by storm and get more women in the area involved in the sport.
Having moved from Evergreen to Everett Rovers, it’s an exciting time for the team, who are looking to reach new players from Watford and the surrounding areas.
The team is currently training to prepare for pre-season friendlies, before the season begins in September.
With no other women’s teams in the immediate vicinity, Everett Rovers Ladies FC is based in Dodd Road, with the aim of making football more accessible to those without access to a car in the local area.
Captain, Becky Freeman, said: “This move is a fantastic opportunity for the team and it couldn’t have come at a better time. We have a great group of players and we’re keen to create more equal opportunities within the club.
“We’re really excited to be part of a family club and look forward to welcoming more players, whether you’re looking to join a new team or have never kicked a ball in your life. The support of Everett has already been great and I’m excited to see what we can do.”
Assistant manager, Holly Worthington, added: “Following on from EURO2020 and with the women’s EUROs next year, there’s never been a better time to encourage those of all backgrounds and abilities to get involved.
“We pride ourselves on being a really inclusive team and helping players to progress in their football journeys. We’re really excited to call Everett Rovers our new home and we can’t wait to see what the coming season has in store!”
Training takes place on Tuesday evenings and games will take place every Sunday when the season begins later in the year.
Everett Rovers Ladies FC are looking to give women aged 16+ the opportunity to train and play football, regardless of their experience level.
