The London Borough of Hillingdon has a new first citizen after Cllr George Cooper was elected to become Mayor of Hillingdon at the Annual Council meeting held on Thursday May 14 at the Civic Centre in Uxbridge. Cllr George Cooper has been Deputy Mayor for the past year and is a ward councillor for Uxbridge North. He has been a resident of the London Borough of Hillingdon for all his life and was first elected as a councillor in 1990. The Mayoress will be his wife, Cllr Judith Cooper, who is a councillor representing Uxbridge South. Mayor of Hillingdon Cllr George Cooper said: “It is a great honour to be elected as Mayor and I feel humbled by the actions of my fellow councillors in nominating me for the position. It is a daunting task to follow Cllr Catherine Dann, who has discharged her duties as Mayor in what can only be described as an outstandingly dignified manner.” The Mayor will participate in a dazzling range of events and activities over the next 12 months and will be working hard to raise money for his charity appeal. You can donate by sending a cheque made payable to Mayor’s Charity Appeal 2015/16 to Mayor’s Parlour, Civic Centre, Uxbridge, UB8 1UW. Visit www.hillingdon.gov.uk/mayor for more information on the role of Mayor and how to invite him to events. Cllr John Hensley was nominated as Deputy Mayor and his Deputy Mayoress is Mrs Diane Hensley.
