NEW LOOK: Bushey fire station could be repurposed for ‘poetic’ purposes

Published on: 20th August 2023   |   By: Darius Morgan   |   Category: Uncategorized

The former Bushey Fire Station could finally be repurposed nine years after its closure.

The station on Rudolph Road permanently closed its doors on March 31, 2014, despite resistance from firefighters and a petition that collected more than 400 signatures. It has remained empty ever since.

Now, an application made on August 8 seeks to allow local machinery parts manufacturer ASNU to finalise a lease already agreed with Hertfordshire County Council to expand their existing operation. The building would be used for the “light industrial process of assembly and testing of high-performance fuel tanks”.

The design and access statement reads: “The approval of this change will simply breathe new life and purpose into the former fire station. It is somewhat poetic that the precision engineering proposed to allow the assembly and testing of high-performance fuel tanks is allied with its original purpose as an engine room, all of which will help to secure the building’s present future.”
