A working group has been formed to help shape the future of the Abbey View athletics track pavilion building in Verulamium Park.
St Albans City & District Council (SADC) announced the formation of the group at a meeting on January 31. The aim is to look at options for the long-term management and upkeep of the building.
A review of SADC’s leisure operations recommended the closure of the building, with arrangements made to allow the track to continue to be used.
The pavilion will still be available for use by groups as discussions about the proposals continue.
Representatives from clubs, schools and colleges which use the facilities are being invited to join the group, and the talks will also involve the council’s leisure contractor Everyone Active.
Councillor Helen Campbell, deputy leader of SADC, said: “It has become clear that the athletics clubs see the pavilion as integral to their activities.
“We’ve listened to their concerns and have acted by setting up this working group, which will empower the community to join us in seeking a way to keep the building open.”
