NEW HEIGHTS: Abbots Scouts raise enough money to build wall in memory of late Leader

The 1st Abbots Langley Scout Group have managed to raise enough money to build a climbing wall in memory of a Leader who passed away last year.

Following on from the success of various fundraising initiatives, including the Scout Christmas Post and an online horse race night, as well as local council grants and the generosity of members and friends of the Scout group, they have placed an order with a supplier for an indoor climbing wall at their Scout headquarters building, situated in Langley Road.

An Abbots Scouts spokesperson said: “The wall is to be called the Clive Winder Climbing Wall, in memory of our dear late group Scout Leader who sadly succumbed due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic last March.

“Clive was keen on encouraging our young people across all sections of the group to broaden their horizons, learn new skills and build self-confidence.

“Use of the climbing wall by all members of the Group, the young and perhaps even the not so young, will be a lasting tribute to dear Clive.

“Construction is due to commence at the end of July and the wall available for use during August primarily for training purposes.

“A provisional date in September has been set for an official opening ceremony.”
