A new charity shop was officially opened by the Mayor and Mayoress of Hillingdon in Eastcote earlier this month. Shoppers and supporters were greeted at 10am on May 2 at the Michael Sobell Hospice charity shop on Field End Road with refreshments and a free prize draw ticket for all customers, all of which were kindly donated by local businesses. This is the third retail shop for the charity which also has shops in Ruislip and Northwood. The retail side of fundraising contributes significantly to vital income for the hospice, which needs to raise £1.5 million per year to pay for the care of its patients at the Mount Vernon site. David Mosely, head of retail at Michael Sobell Hospice said: “The opening event was very successful and the shop was full to capacity all morning with people looking for bargains. We sold many donated brand new and used items at great prices and there was a good atmosphere. We are very grateful to the local community in Eastcote for turning up and supporting us in such a big way.” For more on this read the next edition of My Ruislip News out on May 15.
