Amersham Town Council and the Columbus Explorer Scout Unit from 1st Chesham Bois have teamed up to help their feathered friends
The partnership helped to build bird boxes, which will be installed throughout Amersham, for blue tits and swifts.
The project marked National Nestbox Week running from February 14 to 21, an annual event encouraging people to install bird nesting boxes in their gardens.
The council shared the news to their Facebook page: “The boxes will be installed along the main thoroughfares in Amersham to provide shelter and help declining bird populations.”
According to The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds: “It seems so simple, but providing nestboxes is one of the easiest ways to help birds.
“Putting out bird food is great, but if birds don’t have access to nesting sites, they won’t have anywhere to raise the next generation.
“It’s also key that the nest sites are nearby to foraging locations, where they can find plenty of invertebrates without leaving the nest for too long.”
