A Kenyan school has received a £10,200 donation from the Rotary Club of Amersham.
The Kenyan authorities recently imposed criteria on The Walk Academy in Nakuru that had to be met in order for it to continue its activities.
These included the renovation of a perimeter wall, the provision of a water tank and stand, the replacement of 100 desks, the establishment of a chemistry laboratory, and the introduction of a number of computers for use by the pupils.
Amy Marriot, who lives just outside Amersham and is chairperson of The Walk Centre charity, has had ties with the Rotary Club of Amersham since her father joined the club.
When the club heard that Amy and the charity were looking to support the Kenyan school, they were “delighted to help”.
Two Rotarian members had previously made substantial anonymous donations to the club, with the hope that the money would be used in an international setting.
A cheque worth £10,200 was handed over on January 17, with much of the work getting underway at the school on January 20.
