Whether it’s singing in the shower or humming down the aisles in the supermarket, it is the joy of singing which brought Abbots Langley resident Steve Parker to take up the musical talent as a hobby.
After retiring 10 years ago, it was his musicality which led Steve to perform at local open mic singing events, leaving him to develop a rich passion for music.
Last year, Steve was invited to perform at a charity event for Age UK, held at the Henderson Hub in Abbots Langley, and it was opportunities such as this that marked the beginning of a deeper journey into music.
One year later, Steve had the opportunity to record a song, Fragments, at Watford Sanctuary Studios on Wednesday, October 1.
The song was written by songwriter and playwright Alex Scott, whose recent play of the same name explores the emotional journey of a family member being diagnosed with dementia.
After meeting each other at one of the open mic events, it was Alex who requested Steve sing lead vocals for his song.
The track now been released on multiple streaming platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify and Amazon Music.
Since the play, Alex has been in meetings with Age UK, which has now agreed to promote Fragments, both the play and the song.
The play is planned to take place in February at the Pump House in Watford next year.
