A Trust has shared they are “saddened” after reporting multiple man-made fires in St Albans rural park.

On Friday, April 4, the Highfield Park Trust took to social media to share the “disheartening” news that the fire brigade were called to three fires deliberately started over the previous week.

In a post on Facebook they shared: “We are saddened by this and can’t understand why people would do it. It’s taken our staff and firefighters time. We would like to thank all the members of the local community and public who helped report the fires. While you are in the park please continue to be vigilant and report any suspicious behavior to the police/fire service.”

The government have shared advice on outside fire safety which you can access at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/fire-safety-outdoors

The Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service shared they have attended Highfield Park on a number of occasions over the past week to reports of deliberate fires. They shared: “This is very concerning due to the recent warm weather and dry conditions and the risk of wildfires. We urge the public to not light fires in public spaces, especially dry grassy areas where they can easily take hold and spread quickly.

“We would encourage anyone who sees a fire being deliberately started to contact us or report it to the police.

Andy Hall, Assistant Chief Fire Officer for Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Deliberate fires can cause a significant amount of damage, as well as being distressing for the people affected. On top of that our crews may not be able to attend other incidents where people urgently need our help. Please report any activity that may help the police with their investigations, and help us to protect our communities and keep people safe.”
