Nick Hurd, MP for Northwood and Ruislip, has said the “terrible and unacceptable” knife crime must end after two stabbings took place in the area recently, one of which was fatal.

A 35-year-old man was airlifted to hospital after being stabbed during a fight in Northwood Hills.

Police officers were called to reports of a disturbance in the area of Joel Street, Northwood, at around 7.50pm on Saturday, May 26. The group had separated before officers arrived, a police spokesman said.

Shortly after 8pm, police were then called by London’s Air Ambulance to an injured man at a nearby address who had been stabbed during the disturbance in Joel Street.

The victim, 35, was airlifted to hospital where his condition was described as non-life threatening on Sunday, May 27.

At this stage, officers believe the suspects were around six males, described as black and aged in their late teens or early 20s.

There have been no arrests and detectives from Hillingdon CID are investigating.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed a fight near KFC in Joel Street or who has any information about the stabbing to come forward.

In the second incident, a 16-year-old boy was charged with murder after a man was fatally stabbed in South Ruislip.

Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed the victim, 20-year-old Osman Shidane, who was stabbed in Victoria Road, opposite Asda, died following the attack on Tuesday, May 15 at around 9pm.

Osman had been rushed to a hospital for treatment and remained in a critical condition for several days, but passed away on Friday, May 18 at around 5pm.

A post-mortem examination was held on Saturday, May 19 and gave the cause of death as multiple stab wounds.

The 16-year-old boy is from Hillingdon, but cannot be named for legal reasons.

He was arrested on Wednesday, May 16 at around 12.30pm in The Fairway, Ruislip, on suspicion of attempted murder, but subsequently charged with Osman’s murder on Saturday, May 19.

A 15-year-old girl was also arrested on Wednesday, May 16 on suspicion of assisting an offender, but has since been released without investigation.

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating the incident and continue to make enquiries.

Nick Hurd MP said: “We have to end this terrible and unacceptable cycle of knife violence, which has now reached the streets of Ruislip and Northwood. As Police Minister, I am working with the Mayor to make sure the Police have the resources and the powers they need. We had a similar problem in London 10 years ago: we got on top of it then and will do so again.”

Duncan Flynn, councillor for Northwood Hills, said: “Hillingdon Council and the local safer neighbourhood police team are working together on this issue.”
