The MP for Hertsmere, Oliver Dowden, has written to Transport for London (TfL) calling for Bushey Station to be re-zoned due to inflated ticket prices. Bushey Station is currently within zone eight. As the station is within zone eight, the cost of train travel is significantly higher than it is from other nearby stations such as Hatch End (zone six) and Harrow and Wealdstone (zone five). At peak hours the cost of a daily return ticket from Harrow and Wealdstone to London Euston is £11.60 and £12 from Hatch End. However, despite Bushey Station only being two stops and a very short train journey away from Hatch End the cost of a ticket is £16.80. Mr Dowden said: “The cost of train travel from Bushey into London is too high. It is not right that Bushey residents currently have to pay £16.80 for a 20 minute train ride into London. The price disparity between a season ticket into London from Harrow or Hatch End compared to Bushey is very significant. “I have heard from many Bushey residents who feel they have no choice but to commute into London from another nearby station. This adds needless inconvenience to the daily routine of many of my constituents when they should be able to travel from their own local train station.” Mr Dowden added: “I have been contacted by many Bushey based constituents who have questioned the significant disparity in train ticket prices between Bushey and other nearby stations. “It has been suggested to me by many constituents that Bushey should be reassigned as a zone six station. I have written to the managing director at TfL and the Mayor of London suggesting that they look into the possibility of reassigning Bushey Station. “I appreciate that this is a big issue for many of my constituents and I am keen to campaign for more affordable train travel for Bushey residents. “It is clearly ridiculous that many Bushey residents who commute into London do not feel that they can afford to do so from their own local train station. This needs to be addressed.” What do you think of the ticket prices? Are they fair as they are? Or do they need to be addressed? Email nicholas@mynewsmag.co.uk
