MOVING PERFORMANCE: Abbots Langley operatic society sing online for key workers

An Abbots Langley operatic group have paid tribute to key workers with a moving rendition of a classic tune.

The Abbots Langley Gilbert & Sullivan Society (ALGSS) sang You’ll Never Walk Alone by Gerry and the Pacemakers on their YouTube channel last month.

The group came together on a Zoom call to record the song from individual households during lockdown.

They also put a heart-warming message at the beginning of the video.

It read: “To all those who are in the front line: the doctors, nurses, healthcare workers, support staff, nursing home personnel, truckers transporting our food and supplies, the farmers, bakers and manufacturers, supermarket, the convenience store and petrol station workers, to the refuse collectors, to the postman, the police and fire service and to all of those who constantly work to keep us protected, safe and alive, we thank you more than we can say.”

The group came together on a Zoom call to record the song from individual households during lockdown.

ALGSS was due to hold a summer production of HMS Pinafore during the Abbots Langley Festival, which has been cancelled due to the pandemic. The group, which has been going since 1950, is still hoping they’ll be able to take part in the G&S Festival in Harrogate later this year.
