Chorleywood Parish Council (CPC) is thrilled to announce the return of six large, mooing mammals to the Common.
Nature lovers across Chorleywood may have noticed that the herd of grazing cattle have returned to Chorleywood Common, as part of CPC’s mission to maintain the green space.
A spokesperson for CPC said: “Our conservation herd of six cattle is back on Chorleywood Common, kicking off an early spring graze!
“For everyone’s safety and the wellbeing of the herd, please keep your dog on a lead in the signposted areas and avoid approaching or touching the cattle. Thank you!”
According to the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust: “Grazing is where animals feed little and often on plants throughout the day, much like someone at a buffet. It is often the most effective way to look after habitats such as grassland and heathland.
“The grazing process helps to keep some areas in nature reserves open, stopping the most competitive plants from taking over and preserving the huge variety of plant species.”
