A milkman from Watford has been nominated for Milkman of the Year after being voted the best milkman in his region. Neil Garner has been a milkman for over 21 years and has had the same round for 19 years, so he knows his customers well and really values the role he plays in the local community. He said: “I always make time to chat to my customers – particularly the elderly or housebound and make time to help them when I can – whether its opening a jar or moving a wheelie bin, I know it’s appreciated. But above all, customers value the reliability of the milk&more service and the knowledge that whatever the weather I will be there with their milk and groceries.” The Milkman of the Year competition is celebrating the great tradition of doorstep delivery, which was first started in over 150 years ago, when milk floats were horse drawn and most homes didn’t have electricity, never mind fridges. milk&more customers across the country were invited to vote for their local milkman and say why they thought they were the cream of the crop, which Neil’s customers’ did in their hundreds. And from the feedback its clear they think he is a worthy finalist. The manager of the Watford depot, Chris May, where Neil is based, is not surprised that so many customers voted for him: He commented: “Neil is an outstanding milkman – he goes out of his way to do his best for his customers and is also a great member of the team, here. We wish him well for the finals.” The finals will take place on November 5.
