A group of boys from a Northwood primary school recently met the famous author who founded a farm for city children.
The party of pupils from St Martin’s School went on a trip to Nethercott House, located on the edge of Dartmoor, and enthusiastically took part in a variety of farming activities.
The farm exists as part of the Farms for City Children charity, which is supported by St Martin’s and aims to provide outdoor learning and rural education opportunities for young people.
The farm was founded by beloved children’s author Sir Michael Morpurgo OBE and his wife, Clare. The children were overjoyed to meet the author himself on their farming adventure. Sir Michael joined the boys for an evening hot chocolate and a chat, as well as reading a story.
This is not the first time the author has supported the school, as he was the guest of honour at St Martin’s prizegiving ceremony last year.
During their trip, the pupils also learned all about daily life on the farm, helping to feed the various animals on the site and collect hens’ eggs alongside other activities.
