A resident has started a new men’s group to tackle loneliness and build real friendships.
Jay Shah, the founder of the new Met Line Men’s Group (MLMG), started the group in mid-September. MLMG aims to give men a space to make new friends, work on their development and support each other.
Jay was inspired to start the group after seeing worrying statistics about male friendships. Men are markedly less likely than women to have close friendships they can rely on, to reach out when they’re struggling and have a three times higher suicide rate than women.
MLMG meets every Tuesday at Northwood Hills station from 6.30pm until 8pm.
In the first session, members checked in honestly with each other sharing a win they’ve had this week and something they need support with.
Speaking to Pinner&StanmoreNews, founder of MLMG, Jay said: “I started MLMG because I kept noticing the same pattern, both in my own life and in the men I’ve worked with. Guys doing well by every outward measure, building careers, earning well, ticking the boxes we’re told matter, while quietly carrying a growing sense of disconnection from their own emotions, their bodies, and the people around them.”
Members at the first session said: “It was a great experience! I’m glad to know some new people. The best part was no professional talks, I came away feeling a bit lighter.”
