Fans at Watford FC Women’s matches at Vicarage Road can now drink alcohol in their seats following a change to Women’s Super League (WSL) regulations.
The change was introduced at the match against Sunderland on September 27 in WSL2 after regulations were changed over the summer to allow alcohol consumption in the stands at matches in the top two tiers of women’s football.
Watford had completed the requirements and safety measures needed to introduce the change, which differs from men’s football, where alcohol cannot be consumed in sight of the pitch in the UK.
Supporters are now seated in the Graham Taylor Stand rather than the Elton John Stand, with all season-ticket holders moved to a near-equivalent seat. The club said the Graham Taylor Stand offers higher quality facilities.
Watford has also reassured supporters that fan interactions in front of the Elton John Stand after home matches will not be affected by the move and an alcohol-free zone is also available in the Graham Taylor Stand for supporters.
The move follows a reported increase in support for alcohol being allowed in seats at WSL matches, with a Guardian survey of 4,000 fans finding support rose from 58% to 69% at the end of the 2025/26 season.
