MEMORIAL PARADE: Community invited to attend Holocaust Memorial Day parade in Radlett

Published on: 13th January 2023   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

The Mayor of Hertsmere will be leading a candlelit parade and ceremony to mark Holocaust Memorial Day later this month and everyone is welcome to attend.

The event will provide an opportunity to pause to remember the millions of people who have been murdered or whose lives have been changed beyond recognition during the Holocaust, Nazi Persecution and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

The candlelit parade will be led by Mayor of Hertsmere, councillor John Graham, and will take place on Thursday, January 26. The parade will travel from the Radlett Train Station car park (pictured) at 6pm, along Watling Street to The Radlett Centre, where a ceremony will take place to include videos, speakers and musical performances.

Mayor Cllr Graham said: “I am honoured to be leading such an important event for our borough and to welcome the Bosnian community to the ceremony, from which we will be hearing a survivor’s story.

“The Holocaust and following genocides that took place in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur are some of the darkest times in human history and cannot be forgotten.

“I hope to see many join me in remembrance of the millions who tragically lost their lives as a result of discrimination and hate.”

The event is open for all to attend. If you would like to take part in the parade and/or the ceremony, please e-mail mayors.secretary@hertsmere.gov.uk stating:
