A musician inspired by the melodies of Rickmansworth has released an album all about the town he calls home.
Sasha Luch has previously released a number of musical projects and collaborations, but Ricky News is the one that most sounds like home.
He told RICKYnews: “I moved to Rickmansworth two years ago and completely fell in love with the place. As a musician, I’m like a sponge — I absorb everything around me and give it back as music. This album is how Rickmansworth sounds inside me, and I wanted to share that, so others could feel it too.
“These tracks are the melodies that came to me after walking through its streets, parks, locks, and canals. I like how the locals call this town Ricky — like they’re talking about a close friend. So Ricky News isn’t about abstract global topics, it’s something close, something you deal with every day.
“It’s great what you do with the magazine — it helps people feel seen and important. And I made my little contribution.”
When it came to putting together the album cover art, there was a clear place to turn to for inspiration.
Sasha said: “Honestly, when I came up with the title, I wasn’t even thinking about the magazine. But when I connected the two, I thought, Bingo! — it was a perfect fit! I flipped through the magazine, and whenever I saw ‘familiar’ images, I cut them out and chose what seemed right to me in terms of meaning and colour palette. Fun creativity! In the end, it came out very much like how I see this album.”
Sasha’s aim was to create something unique. He added: “I was inspired by Tom Waits and Shane McGowan, but what influenced me most was AI music. It made me want to do the complete opposite — to create something as human as I possibly could. Even all the instruments that sound there, I made with my own hands.”
Ricky News is available to listen to now.
