A Ukrainian pianist, who rehearses with an Abbots Langley society, is hoping to share her musical talent with others.
Oksana Hermanchuk is the rehearsal pianist for Abbots Langley Gilbert & Sullivan Society and has performed at several fundraising concerts to help those in need in Ukraine.
Before fleeing to the UK after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Oksana studied piano at the Kyiv Conservatory and was a member of the jury for the National Ukrainian Children’s Vocal Competition.
Oksana said: “Leaving Ukraine has been devastating. When you have to register for work and you have no English, all you are offered is cleaning and manual work. For someone whose whole life has been music and the piano, it is really soul-destroying.
“But despite this, I am so happy that I am in a location where I can play and have support. At Sunflower Social Club in Watford, they have added a singing session at the end of the weekly drop-in and I play while we sing Ukrainian songs.”
Oksana is now offering private piano tuition or accompaniment.
