MARVELLOUS MYLA: Nine-year-old Radlett girl raises more than a grand for NSPCC

A Radlett nine-year-old has raised just under £1.3k for NSPCC after she completed a five-mile walk just before Christmas.

Myla Weingarten wanted to show her support to children who are less fortunate than her, and also wanted to celebrate her birthday by doing something extra special.

Oliver, Myla’s dad, is involved with the NSPCC through his work and spoke with her and she was instantly keen to raise money for the charity instead of having a birthday party that she was denied as a result of the national lockdown.

They had set a initial target of raising around £300 but didn’t really have any expectations, so were delighted to see the amount of support they ended up getting.

Speaking to RadlettNews, Myla said: “I’m so grateful for everybody who supported my Walk for Children to raise money for NSPCC. I felt it was important to give something back for my birthday, and to do my Brownies badge.

“It was wet, dark and cold but it means that I really appreciated what I was doing it for.”

Oliver set up the JustGiving page and was amazed to see the response his daughter got, and he told RadlettNews how proud he was of her.

He said: “I’m really happy she’s managed to do such a good thing for a great cause, and she is fully aware of where the money will go and how she is going to support people who are less fortunate than her.

“She always asked for updates on how the fundraising page was doing and whenever someone donated, she wanted to make sure she thanked them via a video call, phone call or an email.

“Myla’s also benefitted from it because she’ll be getting her charity badge with the Brownies, so that was nice for her to get after Christmas.”
