MARVELLOUS MARIA: Croxley resident organises summer fete in memory of late sister

After losing her sister to sepsis, a Croxley resident is hoping to use her family’s story to save lives.

At age 30, Gina Campanini went to hospital with a chest infection. Sadly, six days later, she passed away from sepsis.

As reported in February’s CROXLEYnews, Gina’s sister Maria is running one half marathon every month in 2025 to raise money for The UK Sepsis Trust.

Now, four months into the challenge, Maria has completed what could be one of her most important runs yet.

On Sunday, April 6, Maria was joined by 12 of her family and friends, who put on their Gina T-shirts to take over the capital in the London Landmarks Half Marathon.

Speaking to CROXLEYnews, Maria said: “Part of the purpose of signing up to do all these marathons was to encourage others to do it.

“It is a significant run because there are family members who have never run before or run very little, including my dad who hasn’t run since 1990.”

When she’s not too busy training, Maria has been organising a summer fete at St Clement Danes School in Chorleywood to raise money for The UK Sepsis Trust.

The Summer Squeeze includes a range of activities, from face painting to arts and crafts, and will take place from 10am to 2pm on Sunday, August 17.

Residents are invited to bring picnics, enjoy some live music, and have family fun in the sunshine.

Maria said: “Planning to hold a summer fete reminds me so much of my sister, who was a teacher.

“I feel like we are making progress by sharing Gina’s story far and wide so people are better armed to survive sepsis and save lives.”
