A man from Gerrards Cross was saved by young members of a kung fu group when he had a heart attack.
The 50-year-old man was said to have been visiting relatives in Maidenhead when he collapsed on the side of the road, causing him to bang his head.
Julian Dale, owner of Eagle Claw Kung-Fu School, was walking back home when he found four of his students, Matthew Cooley, Jonathan Barnett, Karl Donovan and Peter James, standing over the collapsed man.
The man was experiencing severe pain in his chest. An ambulance was called, but the group were told it wouldn’t be arriving for another 45 minutes.
The five martial artists tried their best to keep the man talking, but he soon stopped replying. When Julian checked for a pulse, he could not feel one.
As luck would have it, 19-year-old Matthew had just passed his lifeguard training and had been schooled in CPR. After administering CPR, the man began breathing again, and the ambulance arrived shortly afterwards.
Julian said: “I hope this story shows people that kung fu is not just about punching, but about helping others and giving back to the community.”
