After nearly two decades, St Albans City FC have claimed the Herts Senior Cup once again.
Jon Meakes’ side defeated Berkhamsted 4-2 in an action-filled game on April 9, with 17-year-old Callum Tripp securing two goals and giving the Saints their title for the first time since 2005.
Speaking after the game, Jon said: “Very happy, and very happy for our fans! It was never going to be an easy game… they do their homework!”
The Saints are celebrating the win, but won’t be celebrating too hard, as they now look towards the next three games in the National League South, where they currently sit 10th as St Albans News goes to print.
Jon continued: “I could have gone full Saturday team but I still have belief and eyes on the next three games. I wanted to win the cup but I trusted the players out there. There are some good youngsters that we’re obviously going to have a proper look at and as you saw today they did very well!
“It’s for the club, for the supporters, obviously the players and I get the enjoyment out of it. That’s what football is about. It’s about winning things, and today we have won the cup.”
