Man dies in Watford after colliding with lamp post

A man in his 60s has died after the car he was driving collided with a lamp post on Hempstead Road in Watford.

Herts Police were called at 11.55am yesterday, Sunday, February 24, near to the junction with Grove Mill Lane. 

The driver, in a blue Ford Focus, was taken to Harefield Hospital where he later passed away. 

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by family liaison officers.

The road was closed to allow emergency services to attend the scene and it was reopened by 3.30pm. 

The East of England Ambulance (EEA) service sent two ambulance officers, one ambulance and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance to the scene.

A file is being prepared for the coroner and an inquest will be held at a later date.

Herts Fire tweeted: “12:01 @Watford_Whites were mobilised to a road traffic collision on Hempstead Road in Watford – Crews worked together with @EastEnglandAmb and @HertsPolice to make the scene safe #workingtogether.”

EEA said: “We were called at 11.55am on Sunday with reports of a collision in Mill Lane, Watford.

“We sent two ambulance officers, one ambulance and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance.

“One patient was taken to Harefield Hospital by land ambulance for further treatment.”

A spokesperson for Herts said: “Police were called at 11.55am yesterday (Sunday, February 24) to report a collision on Hempstead Road in Watford. 

“It was reported that a blue Ford Focus was in collision with a lamppost, near to the junction with Grove Mill Lane.

“The driver, a man in his 60s, was taken to hospital where he sadly passed away.

“His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by family liaison officers.
