‘MAKES A DIFFERENCE’: Police visit Hertsmere charity to raise awareness of hate crime

Published on: 5th November 2025   |   By: Naomi Greenaway   |   Category: Uncategorized

Hertfordshire Police recently visited members of Mencap, a charity which supports people with learning disabilities across Hertsmere, including in Bushey.

On Wednesday, October 1, PC Natasha Redman visited Mencap during their weekly coffee morning, speaking to members about the definition of hate crime and how to report a crime.

According to Herts Police, disability is under-reported as a hate crime.

Head of communications at Hertsmere Mencap Karen Snyder told RADLETTNEWS: “PC Redman reminded our members that hate crime matters and reporting it makes a difference.”

Hertsmere Mencap supports over 300 children and adults with learning disabilities to feel valued, listened to and included. They run multiple programmes, including art, music and movement, drop-in coffee mornings, bingo and dance, as well as an evening social club, youth club and a nine-week employment training programme.
