A major incident has taken place on the M1 near Watford this morning, causing chaos for locals and commuters.
Police were called at just after 8.30am to reports of a multi-vehicle road traffic collision on the M1 northbound at junction 4.
Five cars and one Heavy Goods Vehicle were involved in the collision.
One female casualty was said to have been trapped in a car, released by firefighters, and taken into the care of the ambulance service.
The incident blocked two lanes and there were severe delays while it was dealt with and the vehicles recovered. Herts Fire and Rescue crews from Borehamwood, Watford, St Albans and Garston were in attendance.
Beds, Cambs and Herts Road Policing Unit said: “In excess of 10 drivers were observed using their mobiles to record or take pictures of the incident as they drove past, nearly causing more collisions themselves. All of them can expect notices in the post.”
