LUNCH TIME: Farm to fork project incorporates Bushey students’ produce into meals

Published on: 7th November 2025   |   By: Ellie Rose   |   Category: Uncategorized

Something incredible is growing at St Margaret’s School in Bushey – and it’s not just the tomatoes!

Imagine eating lunch made from veggies you helped plant; that’s the ‘farm to fork’ vision inspiring pupils from nursery to Sixth Form.

Following the success of its new Science Garden, the school has announced plans to incorporate student-grown produce into its daily school meals.

Since its launch in spring, the Science Garden has blossomed into one of the school’s most popular enrichment spaces. Students have been clearing weeds, designing pathways, building raised beds, and even ensuring the pond is a perfect home for wildlife. Rainwater is collected, compost is created, and every plant tells a story of teamwork and care.

Science Garden lead Mr Metcalfe says the project has become “a calm and supportive space where meaningful relationships can grow”.

Yet the garden is also nurturing something even bigger: a new generation of environmentally conscious thinkers learning the importance of what is on their plate.
