Love Divine – a concert of favourite wedding music

Published on: 2nd July 2018   |   By: Jason Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

The Hemel Hempstead Singers will be performing its Love Divine concert of favourite wedding music on Saturday, July 7 at 7.30pm at St John’s Church in Boxmoor, Hemel Hempstead, and are inviting people to come and enjoy it. Tickets are £12 and are available on the door.

The choir will be singing a wide range of music heard at weddings, accompanied by a small string ensemble.

The songs will range from the popular Here Comes the Bride by Wagner and Arrival of the Queen of Sheba by Handel, to the exuberant Brightly Dawns our Wedding Day from Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado, the boisterous Tudor madrigal Mother, I will have a Husband and the gentle Irish Blessing by Chilcott.

Musical director Simon Pusey said: “As it’s summer and traditional ‘wedding season’, including the recent royal wedding, we thought it would be fun in our Love Divine concert to sing the classic songs traditionally heard at weddings, and some less familiar gems.

“As well as our usual performances, the Hemel Hempstead Singers also sing at weddings, so if anyone is interested in having a choir at their wedding, do get in touch.

“If people are interested in joining the choir, we welcome new members of any voice. We’re a small friendly choir that meet regularly on Wednesdays in Hemel Hempstead to rehearse. We are particularly interested in enquiries from tenors and basses – men are always in short supply.

“We sing a wide range of music, from the 16th century to the present day. Although we don’t hold auditions, some knowledge of sight reading is an advantage.”
