Northwood Library has been closed temporarily due to concerns over subsidence.
Hillingdon Council shut the building on Saturday, September 30, following a recently conducted survey that highlighted a number of slow progressing structural issues, something which the council had already been aware of and was monitoring.
The closure is to facilitate a series of more intrusive surveys that are currently being undertaken there to ascertain the severity of any issues uncovered by the initial survey.
Hillingdon Council is encouraging residents who regularly use the library to use the nearby Northwood Hills Library instead, which has extended its opening hours to deal with an expected increase of visitors.
Northwood Hills Library is located on Potter Street, near Northwood Hills station.
Councillor Jonathan Bianco, deputy leader of Hillingdon Council, said: “We have been closely monitoring the changes to Northwood Library’s condition, and these surveys will enable us to further understand the extent of the issue.
“While the surveys are underway, nearby Northwood Hills Library is a great temporary alternative.”
