LOUSY LITTERERS: Group urges community to stop littering as 170 beer cans found in Pinner

A non-profit group is asking people to stop littering after more than 150 cans were found in a park in Pinner on Monday, August 28.

Keep It Clean London shared images on social media from a recent clean-up in Bridge Street Gardens, along the River Pinn. A total of 170 cans of lager were found behind a bench, as well as other items of rubbish and overflowing bins.

The images were accompanied by a vlog from Keep It Clean London member George Bit, as he picked up rubbish from around Pinner.

The post stated that seven bags of rubbish were collected.

George spoke to Pinner News and said: “Pinner is a wonderful part of Harrow, and the usual reaction I get from people when they see the clean-ups I do here is that of genuine shock, as littering is probably the last thing anyone associates with this town.

“And it can easily reach ridiculous levels, as could be seen in Bridge Street Gardens. That is just one example; the same applies to many streets, parks, car parks, river banks etc. I’ve lost count of how many hundreds of bags of litter I’ve collected around Pinner and I’m not even the only active volunteer in the area.

“Ultimately, we could cure this disease through education, but who knows when that will eventually happen? We can’t afford to wait that long just watching from the sidelines. Pinner might become unrecognisable by then and what a huge shame that would be.”
