LOSE YOURSELF: Psychedelic maze of colour and sound in Watford

Published on: 20th September 2019   |   By: News Desk   |   Category: Uncategorized

Watford residents are invited to take part in a free interactive public art installation that explores how our brain creates colour and the impacts that different colour and light intensities have on our emotions.

The Colourdome, brought to you by Watford Borough Council and Eyemusic, is a walk-in labyrinth of colour chambers originally created by artist Peter Jones in the early 70s.

It will be coming to Watford High Street (by the event space by the pond, on The Parade) on September 28 and September 29.

Special educational needs and disability (SEND) sessions will be held from 11am to 12noon and general entry will be from 12noon to 4pm on both days.

Visitors to the free Colourdome, walk through a series of coloured chambers in the dome, wearing cloaks of primary colours which alter as they move from space to space.

Made of special PVC material, the dome is thin enough to let through colour and light, and it’s also waterproof.

Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “It’s great to introduce the Colourdome to Watford town centre. I’m pleased that despite cuts in our funding from central government, we are still able to put on events like these ones free of charge for people to enjoy.

“The Colourdome has great sensory benefits for those with special educational needs and disabilities, so it’s for everyone to enjoy. Next year it will be even bigger and better with the introduction of its big brother, Colourscape.”

There are also pop up performances aplenty in the dome with dancing and live music troupes from Tibet, China and Mongolia.

Eyemusic, the company who run Colourscape explain: “While exploring the many interconnected chambers you experience the intensity and subtlety of colour in a new way.

“The only colours actually used in the structures are translucent red, blue, green and opaque grey, but you will see mixtures of colours that you may not be able to name.”

Filled with colour, light and music, this rainbow maze promises to be an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages.
