A street cleaner who has worked in the community for more than 20 years has been awarded for his services to the council.
Phillip Hay, a lifelong Rickmansworth resident, has been recognised for his hard work keeping the streets clean in the town with a long service certificate and a £200 multi-store gift card.
Phillip told RickyNews: “I started in the job after my uncle told me about it when I was 18- and now I am 40. If it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t be here now cleaning the streets of Rickmansworth. I have seen many changes in the town over the years particularly since they have shut transport off on the High Street, that has made my job a lot easier.”
Phillip announced the news to the community in a Facebook post, which received over 1,000 likes and 240 comments thanking him for his hard work over the years.
One resident said: “It’s amazing to see you out in sun, rain, snow and wind! Thank you for keeping our streets immaculate.”
Another said: “Wow! Very well deserved. I see you most mornings very early in Mill End and often think to myself what a great job you do. We need you in Maple Cross I think. Top Job.”
Another commented: “Well done Phillip and well deserved. Whenever I see you I say ‘there goes the hardest working man in Ricky’ you are also a very kind person, you were of help to me and my husband soon after we came to Ricky nearly 20 years ago.”
Reacting to the praise, Phillip added: “I didn’t expect this to happen. I am still getting praise online and out on the streets. It’s nice to have positive feedback and people coming up to me congratulating me. I would just like to say thank you so much everyone for your kind words and thoughts.”
