A man who stole mobile phones from two teenage girls in a violent street robbery has been handed a nine-year prison sentence.
Jack Biggs, formerly of Farriers Way in Watford, was sentenced at St Albans Crown Court on Friday, December 19 after previously being found guilty following a trial in October this year.
The jury heard how Biggs, now aged 24, approached the two victims outside Tesco Extra on Lower High Street in Watford on September 3, 2021.
He assaulted the girls, who were aged 13 and 16 at the time, by punching one in the face and pulling the hair of the other, before stealing both of their phones.
Detective Constable Julie Vint, from Watford’s Criminal Investigation Department, (CID) said: “The victims had to wait a very long time for Biggs to be sentenced due to multiple delays in the court process, but they have shown dignity and composure beyond their years.
“It’s been a long journey, but I’m pleased we have finally been able to secure a custodial sentence, and I hope it allows both girls to move forward with their lives.
“Biggs’ actions on that night demonstrated that he is a violent offender, targeting vulnerable females. Now he is behind bars, he is no longer a risk to the public.”
