Three St Albans intervention police officers saved the life of a man who went into cardiac arrest on Monday night (February 5).

The man – aged in his 30s – collapsed during a football match at Oaklands College in Smallford just after 8.30pm.

The football club medic started CPR and put the defibrillator in place before the officers arrived.

The officers – PCs Ellie Jackson and Katy Porter and student officer PC Jodie Campbell – took it in turns to use the defibrillator. After 40 minutes and two shocks, he came round and was taken to the Lister Hospital by ambulance.

St Albans Chief Inspector Martin Turpin told the officers: “My fiancé is a nurse, and she repeatedly tells me how rare it is to bring someone back like this; this just emphasises your fantastic achievement. You saved someone’s life and should be immensely proud.”
