A resident took on the brave challenge of jumping out of a plane to raise vital funds for a local charity.
Leia Ward completed the charity skydive on Wednesday, July 30, for Watford Mencap, which provides support for children and adults with learning disabilities.
She was inspired to take part after seeing the work that her step-mum, who works for Watford Mencap, does on a daily basis.
Leia said: “My amazing step-mum is part of a team that puts so much heart, care and dedication into everything they do. I’ve seen first-hand how passionate they are about making a difference, and I wanted to do something to show my support for them, and for all the people Watford Mencap helps every day.”
Watford Mencap supports over 800 people with learning disabilities and their families in Watford, Three Rivers and Hertsmere. It provides tailored services to help people live more independently, reach their goals and feel included in their communities. The charity is fully self-funded and relies on a team of dedicated staff and volunteers to run its services.
Speaking before the skydive, Leia added: “I need to raise at least £300 to take part, and every penny goes to supporting the vital work Watford Mencap does, from campaigning for equal rights to providing life-changing support.
“If you can spare even a small amount, it would mean the world and give me one more reason not to back out when I’m standing at the edge of that plane!”
