When parts of the Hatch End Park Estate sign began to fall off, it wasn’t just letters that were lost, but a piece of identity slipping away.
Early in 2024, residents complained to Harrow Council about the deterioration of the sign after parts of it fell off and hit a passer-by.
Hatch End councillor Matthew Goodwin-Freeman started the process of getting the old sign removed and assessed to determine if restoration could take place. Unfortunately, it was deemed to be damaged beyond repair.
Work began to create a suitable replacement, and residents were asked to give their view on the new signs based on the original historic design.
After months of deliberation and perfecting, it was announced on Saturday, June 28, that the replica had been installed.
Posting on Facebook, cllr Goodwin-Freeman said: “Thank you everyone for coming to the unveiling of our new sign. After months of work to design a replica, it was great to join residents to celebrate the new sign that will last many decades to come.”
