Staff and students have welcomed an unusual addition to their school: a Shetland ram.
York House School in Croxley has taken in the woolly wonder, named Mr Jigsaw, as part of their ongoing lambing project, following a successful pilot in 2022.
Mr Jigsaw now lives in the onsite smallholding, having been moved to his own field with two of the school’s other rams, and is settling in well.
He earned his name through his patchwork colouring and was given the title of ‘Mr’ by the schoolchildren once they realised his importance to the lambing programme.
Six of the school’s ewes have now been tupped and are expecting to give birth in either April or May this year.
Tara Warren, smallholding manager at York House, said: “We can’t wait to take the children out to witness new life being born and to watch the lambs as they learn to walk, play and feed.
“Mr Jigsaw has quite a mischievous personality now, and he likes to spend time in the bushes finding the best food, stripping the bark from fallen trees or standing proud on the small mound in the centre of the field.”
