Published on: 5th May 2021   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

A man has been charged in connection with a stabbing in Watford.

Freddie Gathithi, aged 18, of Boundary Way, Watford, has been charged with:

  • Grievous Bodily Harm (Section 18 – wounding with intent)
  • Possession of an offensive weapon in a public place
  • Possession of a knife blade in a public place
  • Assault by beating

The charges relate to an incident in The Brow on Tuesday, April 27, where an 18-year-old man suffered a stab wound following an altercation between two people who are known to one another.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment, and he has since been discharged.

Gathithi appeared at Hatfield Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday May, 4 where he was released on conditional bail which states he must not enter Watford, he must adhere to a curfew and he must be electronically monitored by tag.

Watford Chief Inspector Ian Grout said: “The hard work and dedication of the attending officers and subsequently the Local Crime Unit in securing these charges shows just how seriously we take knife crime in Watford.

“We take a zero-tolerance approach and this message is now more important than ever as this incident occurred during our Operation Sceptre knife amnesty week.

“We now step back and await the case’s progress through the judicial system.”
