KING’S HONOURS: Northwood community market stalwart named in Birthday Honours List

Published on: 23rd July 2024   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Northwood woman has been recognised in His Majesty the King’s Birthday Honours List 2024.

Olive Fairclough was granted the British Empire Medal on Friday, June 14, for services to the community in Northwood.

Olive is much-loved local figure, having been a stalwart of the former Saturday Market run by the Northwood Lions for 50 years.

Operating every Saturday on Pinner Road and known to locals as ‘The Lion’s Den’, the market raised more than £300,000 for a variety of good causes across five decades. Each year, £25,000 was given to a selection of chosen charities.

However, in 2022, following two years of closure due to the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, the market was sadly forced to close.

Despite this, Olive’s hard work has now been justly recognised with an honour from the King himself.
