Members of 1st Abbots Langley Scout Group carried out a litter pick at the Manor House Grounds the day after the village carnival.
Council workers had already removed the majority of the rubbish, but the Scouts, aged between 11 and 14, attended the next day to clear up what remained. They were joined by parents and supervised by Scout lead volunteer Daniel Cartwright.
The Scouts have provided this service for many years through an arrangement with Watford Lions, the organisers of the carnival.
A spokesperson for the Scout group said: “The anticipation of making some interesting finds provides some motivation for the young people to leave their cosy beds early on a Sunday morning. Their participation in the litter pick, apart from providing a service to the community, helps to protect the environment and encourages the young people to take pride in their village.
“A good job done and the field cleared in time for cricket practice later that day.”
