Jewellery was allegedly stolen from a wheelchair-bound Berkhamsted resident by two women claiming to belong to a charity.

The incident took place at Shaftesbury Court, a hub of purpose-built rental properties for people over the age of 60, on Sunday, June 11.

Two smartly dressed women were reported to have approached a pair of residents, one of whom was in a wheelchair. The women were carrying clipboards and claimed to be working for a charity.

The women offered to help the resident in the wheelchair into her apartment. Once they had left, the resident noticed that her bracelet and necklace had been taken.

Shaftesbury Court scheme manager Kit Maddox said: “Her husband believes these two ladies have stolen them off her. Please be cautious and do not allow access to properties without any ID.”

A spokesperson for Herts Police said: “At this time, all lines of inquiry have been exhausted and no suspect has been identified. Should any new investigative opportunities become available, they will be acted upon accordingly.”

Shaftesbury Court providers Sanctuary have been contacted for comment.
