Five scouts from troops located in Northwood and Ruislip have been selected to represent their area at a world scouting event in South Korea.
The World Scouting Jamboree takes place every four years, with the next event set for 2023. It’s a huge 12-day-long camp attended by tens of thousands of scouts from across the world.
The young people heading to the jamboree as part of the UK contingent are 14-year-olds Alex, Charlie and Evie and 13-year-old Sam.
They are joined by 17-year-old Hugo, who will be attending as a member of the International Service Team, who volunteer to run the activities prepared on the camp site.
This was by no means an easy selection, with all applicants to go to the event having to submit a detailed written application and attend a full day of assessments and interviews.
The five are now getting ready for their adventure, with them getting to know the other members of their unit, the 36 other scouts and four other leaders they will be attending the jamboree with.
They’ve also been learning more about South Korea, designing logos for their unit and practicing their scouting skills.
The young scouts are also raising funds to help them embark on the trip to South Korea, which costs just under £4,000 per person. Earning the funds yourself is it’s own important part of the process.
